Our Commitments

  • Listening to and understanding your needs in order to continually adapt to their changes.
  • To inspire and support you in your active daily life.
  • Raise awareness about the fashion industry and particularly the activewear industry, its development and its challenges.

We are committed to acting with kindness in carrying out our mission and to always working to place people and transparency at the heart of our concerns and to acting as best we can for the planet.

Our selection of brands

We bring together brands that share our vision and values: brands rooted in movement, which accompany the modern woman in her active daily life, in order to give her confidence and allow her to dare to be who she is.

Spoade is proud to bring together brands designed for women, 90% of which are founded and run by women.

Because we advocate singularity, and this point is in the very essence of all the brands we select. Each one is committed in its own way and in its own image , whether in terms of inclusivity, ethical, environmental and/or social commitments.

We have chosen to work with international and European brands due to the lack of active fashion brands in France . It is essential for us to meet the 3 fundamental criteria of performance, comfort and style, key elements for real use of clothing, particularly in a context where we buy more but wear them less and less. Our wish obviously remains to be able to offer products made in France or created by French brands.

The challenges of the fashion industry

We know that the future of the fashion industry is circular fashion* , but what does it mean? Creating better products and services for customers, contributing to a resilient and thriving fashion industry and regenerative of the environment.

Concretely, this is based on 4 key pillars :

  • Increase daily use of clothing.
  • Eliminate substances of concern and release of microfibers.
  • Radically improve the clothing recycling industry to equivalent quality/value.
  • Use resources efficiently and move towards renewable resources.

Our vision & our actions

At Spoade we try at our level to do what we can in this direction, being aware that it remains a very small contribution.

As distributors, we do not have control over the manufacturing of clothing but we have a role to play in selecting brands, understanding their challenges, their ethical, social and environmental commitments of today and tomorrow and, at our level, challenging them on these. This also involves selecting products that will always be based on criteria of style, functionality, performance and comfort because for us a product must above all be useful and used, but respectful manufacturing must become the norm. It is by working hand in hand that each of the players in the fashion industry can make a difference.

1) Increase daily use of clothing

“Clothing worldwide is massively underused: the average number of times a garment is worn before it ceases to be useful has decreased by 36% compared to 15 years ago” *

Our first action and the basis of our concept is above all to select products that will please you in terms of style, that will meet your sporting needs and that can easily be worn outside of your physical activities.

We are convinced that the key to using a garment is done through 3 key points : It starts with an attractive aesthetic aspect. It is fueled by mandatory key features such as comfort, quality and durability. It meets specific needs of performance, technicality, cut and support according to its morphology. This is how the product selection is made at Spoade.

Product transparency

Because we are customers ourselves and it is essential for us to understand what we are buying, we ensure through our product descriptions to provide you with all the information necessary to understand the garment, whether from a technical, style or size point of view. When possible, we indicate the origin of the materials, the manufacturing plants, the production processes and the explanation of the labels so that your selection can be made in full awareness.

Buy better but less

Because we are convinced that we must buy better and less and this vision is shared with all the brands we select. This is reflected in different points:

  • Product durability: an essential point when selecting products whether for gentle or dynamic sports, each piece meets durability criteria whether through its material, production, cut, technical and/or performance characteristics.
  • Timeless pieces: Whether it is the brands during the design or ourselves during our selection, we scrupulously choose timeless pieces that can be worn easily and that remain over time. We add a few more trendy pieces whether by choice of cut, patterns or color but always keeping in mind an easily versatile wearing of the garment.
  • The versatile use of a product: a key element at the heart of the design of each piece for most of the brands we bring together and a real pillar at Spoade: support in adopting active fashion in your daily life. Whether through our product photos, our product descriptions, on our social networks, we always offer options to be able to wear your sports clothing during your multifaceted days.
  • Made-to-order production: all our brands produce to order, in limited and predefined quantities so as not to end up with mountains of stock to sell off.
  • Garment care: It is essential to follow the care instructions for each product so that they can be used for longer and retain their true value.

2) Eliminate substances of concern

In order to improve transparency on substances of concern in the production process, we do our best to select garments with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 accreditation which exempts the textile from harmful substances and the Bluesign® APPROVED program which, in addition to assessing the consumption of chemicals, has strict requirements in terms of safety, working conditions and environmental standards.

3) The release of microplastics

The problem of microplastics: Most synthetic textiles contain plastic fibers that are released during machine washing. Thus released into wastewater, these non-biodegradable microplastics are not effectively filtered by treatment plants and end up in our oceans. They are ingested by fish and other marine organisms and end up on our plates, harmful to the environment but also to humans.

What are synthetic textiles? These are textiles made from plastic, such as polyester, acrylic and nylon/polyamide.

At present, there are no real effective solutions other than catching them. Technologies exist to reduce the leakage of microfibers during washing, such as the use of a GUPPYFRIEND® bag that we offer on our site and whose use is mentioned in the care instructions of each garment when its composition requires it. In addition, from January 1, 2025, the AGEC law (Anti-Waste and Circular Economy) will make the integration of microplastic filters mandatory on all new washing machines sold in France.

And eliminate them? This represents 60% of the clothing market today and it is unrealistic to assume that they could all be eliminated in the medium term, because they offer properties that cannot currently be reproduced, especially for technical and high-performance products such as activewear.

4) Recycled materials and recycling

At Spoade we favor the use of recycled materials for equal products when selecting products, but we do not want the sustainability of a product to be impacted by this choice. Some brands are afraid to change the current material of their clothing to a recycled alternative for fear of losing quality and durability. The GRS (Global Recycled Standard) standard improves confidence in recycled materials by certifying the entire final product as recycled according to ISO standards. On our site, some of our recycled products have this certification.

The difficulty in recycling clothing lies in the disconnect between design, manufacturing and the recycling process. When manufacturing clothing, recycling is rarely taken into account. In addition, the more materials are used, the more complex recycling is. We mention products that contain only one material such as cotton, lyocell, recycled nylon/polyamide (ECONYL® and Q-NOVA®), materials that are of recycled origin and are also easier to recycle. Some of their manufacturing processes require less use of resources (water, energy, CO2 emissions, etc.). This information is visible on the product sheets.
